Point of Information concerning honor guards and cremations
Due to a call from one of our new Hon. Life members and newly minted 4th degree SK, I feel that
posting this information will be of interest. Please make a note of this if you
have decided upon cremation.
The question was posed: "If a SK from our council dies out of town, can he have
an honor guard even if he is to be cremated?"
The answer is from the Marshal of the 4th Degree for Cardinal Stritch Assembly, Paul Isherwood:
"Greetings. You are correct in stating that it would be up to the local Assembly
to assist in the Honor Guard at both the wake and funeral if requested. If he is to
be cremated then please note the following rule in regards to cremated remains etc.:
"If there is to be a wake and/or funeral and the deceased has already been cremated,
if he wants an honor guard his remains should be present and there should be a picture
of him at the funeral home or at the mass. If the remains are not present then there
is no need for an honor guard as he really isn't there at all in any fashion."
My thanks to the Worthy Marshal in defining this point.
